Dental Implants in Kent – the benefits

At Staplehurst Dental, we provide our patients with an open flow of information about the treatments we have available. We want you to know the benefits and challenges of any treatment in advance, so that you can make a decision about the best option for you.

dental-implants-in-kentWhen you are considering dental implants in Kent, it is worth knowing that it is a long-term decision that will affect your quality of life in many ways. In the short term however, the work can be quite extensive and the healing period is relatively long. For around about eight weeks you will need to be on a very limited diet to help the implants to settle into their positions without disturbance. That being said, let’s look at some of the fantastic benefits they can offer.

Practical improvement

The first and primary benefit is the return of much of the functionality of your teeth. You will be able to smile, eat and speak with confidence, as dental implants are a fixed solution that, once the whole process is complete, you do not have to spend a lot of time getting used to. They work closely with your jaw bone to imitate natural movement.

Cosmetic improvement

If you are concerned about the way you look with gaps in your teeth, then dental implants provide an obvious solution.

However, did you know that having them inserted can also prevent deterioration of the jaw bone through lack of use? The jaw bone reacts to having the implants inserted by growing around them and then the continued forces that the chewing motion produces keep everything stimulated and healthy long term. Avoiding jaw bone loss can prevent the face taking on a sunken look due to deterioration.

Hygiene improvement

You get better all-round oral hygiene when you have a full set of teeth which reduces your risk of infections and makes your teeth easier to take care of.You will need to have a conscientious hygiene routine to look after your dental implants and your remaining teeth. When you choose to have dental implants in Kent at Staplehurst Dental, we will give you all the advice we can to make this integration an easy and effective process.

New teeth, new lease of life

If you have missing teeth then you do not need to be told about the effect they can have on your quality of life, especially if this affects your ability to choose the foods you want, or to smile with self-assurance. So, let us tell you about the joy of dental implants in Kent at Staplehurst Dental instead. Choosing to have dental implants is a big step, and it is one that you will find easier to take the more you know about what will happen. Visit our clinic for the most in-depth advice, but start here to get an overview.

dental-implants-kentStart to finish – how does it work?

The end result we are aiming for with dental implants is to have an implant in the jaw bone, which is then supporting one or more synthetic teeth.

The way we get there is first through a detailed consultation and examination. Your dentist will assess your suitability for dental implants by checking what you need, the density of your jaw bone and other things such as your general health. If you are well and have the physical capacity to support the implants in your jaw, then you can make the choice to go ahead. Some health conditions are contra-indicated but your dentist will ask you about these.

The next thing your dentist will do is make a comprehensive plan to insert the dental implants in Kent at our clinic. They need to pay attention to things like position in the jaw and angle of the implant to ensure that the new teeth work in concert with the motion of the jaw bone in a way that puts the least strain on the implants. They are very secure, but the forces of chewing are quite strong and multi-directional, so the more carefully their position is planned, the more likely it is that your implants will have the very long life that they are supposed to.

Next up is the actual insertion. You dentist drills hole in your jaw bone under anaesthetic and inserts the dental implants. This can be done at our clinic in Kent. Dental implants take a little while to mesh into the jaw bone so you will then need to heal for around eight weeks before having your synthetic teeth fitted for use.

Correct those minor imperfections in only three months

Are you one of those people who isn’t entirely happy with their smile because only one tooth is slightly wonky, or your teeth have shifted out of place after previous orthodontic work? Maybe you think your dentist won’t be able to offer a solution for such minor imperfections. After all braces are huge metal train-tracks that you have to wear for years to correct massive problems, aren’t they?

invisible-braces-in-kentWell, that may have once been the case, but in Kent, braces treatments have moved on enormously, and now, at Staplehurst Dental Practice, we can offer you convenient, discreet solutions for correcting minor orthodontic imperfections.

Braces in Kent for such problems now include the Invisalign i7 system. This is the latest addition to the Invisalign range of clear aligners, which are braces, but not in the traditional sense.

Invisalign i7 is designed to correct minor tooth movement and these braces in Kent can provide results in as little as three months, depending on your individual case, of course.

These Kent braces are designed for both adults and teenagers. They are not braces as such, but clear plastic aligners which fit over the teeth and apply pressure front and back to ease the teeth into a new position. The patient wears a series of aligners, which move the teeth in gentle increments. Wearers usually put in the next aligner after wearing the previous one for two weeks.

The great thing about these kinds of braces in Kent, is that they are made of clear plastic, so they are very hard to see. Someone would have to get up pretty close to you to spot them, which, if you are an adult operating in a business world, is reassuring. Also, these aligners are removable, which means you can take them out to eat, and to clean them.

If you would like to find out more about this revolutionary alternative to traditional braces in Kent, then why not make an appointment for a free consultation with our consultant. We can show you what steps the aligners will take your teeth through to reach their desired position using our digital simulation programme, reassuring you that with Invisalign i7, nothing is left to chance.

Braces, they’ve been around for hundreds of years

If you think wanting the perfect smile is a desire that belongs only to the last few decades, then think again. Archaelogists have found that some mummified remains from Ancient Egypt with metal bands fixed around their teeth, and catgut is believed to have been attached to the bands to act as wires to pull the teeth into their desired position. Orthodontics, it seems, is a far older science and art than most of us realise.

The history of orthodontics

braces-in-kentOrthodontics as the branch of dentistry that we recognise today, really came into being in the 18th century when Frenchman Pierre Fauchard invented an appliance called the bandeau. This horseshoe-shaped piece of iron featured regularly spaced holes to fit around the teeth and correct their alignment. It is for this that Fauchard is now called the Father of Dentistry.

What we would recognise as braces in Kent today first appeared in 1819, when another French dentist, Christophe-Francois Delabarre tried separating overcrowded teeth by inserting swelling threads or wooden wedges between each space.

Fast forward to the 1970s, when the invention of dental adhesives led to the creation of what today we recognise as braces in Kent – brackets fixed to the teeth with winding wires attached to them, and the use of stainless steel rather than gold or silver.

At Staplehurst Dental, we are so glad that braces in Kent are now made of the highest quality, high tech materials, which make the science of orthodontics as hygienic, easy, and efficient as possible.

Major advances in teeth straightening means that now in the 2010s, there are many different systems of braces in Kent, some of which aren’t even braces. At Staplehurst Dental Practice, we offer four different systems so that we can find the one that best suits each patient’s particular needs. These systems are: Six Month Smiles (fixed tooth-coloured bracket braces that on average take about six months to move the desired results); Invisalign (clear plastic mouth-guard-like aligners that are almost invisible and removable); Invisalign i7 (aligners that can achieve results for minor tooth adjustments in as little as three months); Invisalign Teen (clear plasti aligners for teenagers); and veneers (instant results with bonded porcelain sheaths for mildly misaligned teeth).

Why do I keep hearing about veneers?

It’s probably because veneers have become increasingly popular over the years; according blog newveneers.wordpress.com, many celebrities such as: Megan fox, Victoria Beckham, and Cheryl Cole, owe their perfect smiles to veneers. Veneers may be popular with celebrities but they don’t carry that celebrity price tag.Due to their affordability, they’re becoming increasingly popular with average Joe too! Healthrow.net says that porcelain veneers will not stain, this means you can go on enjoying your cups of coffee (or glasses of wine) without the worry of ruining your brand new smile. Veneers are made bespoke to the individual, so you can actually choose a colour to suit you and the look you’re going for.  Veneers look extremely natural and will make you want to show off those pearly whites as often as you can! nobody will know you’ve had cosmetic work done do your teeth, unless you tell them!

veneer-in-kentWhat exactly are veneers?

A dental veneer is a thin piece of porcelain that fits over the surface of a tooth, says the Oral Health Foundation. Veneers can be used on one singe tooth, or many front teeth to improve the look of your smile. Staplehurst Dental Practice offer veneers in Kent, they say veneers can fix teeth issues such as: chipped or broken teeth, discoloured teeth and small gaps. Patients who opt for veneers in Kent do not require any major dental surgery. The teeth due for treatment have a small amount of enamel removed (the same thickness as the very thin veneer) and the veneer is then fixed firmly on to the teeth, using a strong bonding. This method provides immediate results. Staplehurst Dental Practice also offers a Smile Makeover treatment which involves taking a picture of the patient’s teeth and allowing them to electronically modify the picture to produce a smile which is suitable to them. the patients can then design a 3D version of their chosen smile to see how it looks in their mouth before any modifications are made to their actual teeth with veneers. Kent clinic, Staplehurst Dental Practice, offers veneer aftercare to their patients to ensure that their oral needs are met, and their teeth remain healthy. Do you want to fill the gaps in your smile?

Do you or someone you love have missing teeth? Is it something that you would like to see fixed? Have you looked at the options but not yet found the right one to fit your needs? Then pay a visit to our clinic in Kent, dental implants may be the solution for you.

fill-gapsDental implants – an innovative solution

The number of options for replacement of missing teeth has expanded over the years and improved considerably. You may not have heard of dental implants but they are one of the latest solutions for replacing either a single tooth or many teeth. They only need to replace the teeth that are missing. Unlike some other solutions, dental implants work alongside your remaining teeth which do not need to be removed to have dental implants fitted. At Staplehurst Dental, we think this is excellent news because it means that you will retain as much natural look and function for your teeth as possible. Come and talk to us about dental implants in Kent and we’re sure you will get the advice you need to decide what is best for you.

The basics of dental implants

Dental implants go into your jaw bone just like the roots of your teeth. The dentist will drill small holes into your jaw bone – don’t worry, you will either have a local anaesthetic whilst this is done or, if you’re particularly worried, you can talk to us about other sedation options. The implants go into these holes and are then secure. Over time, the jaw bone will knit around the implants making them even more settled. If properly cared for, your implants have the potential to last a lifetime. Bridges, crowns or dentures are then affixed to the implants to give you the prosthetic teeth you need to restore normal function.

At Staplehurst Dental, Kent, dental implants are one of the ways we hope to give you back the ability to choose your foods freely, smile with confidence and talk as normal. We know how important dental health is to life and the effect it can have on the way you feel about yourself. We want to offer you the chance to be the brightest you can be and experience the joy of a restored set of teeth.

Where can I be sure of getting great braces in Kent?

At Staplehurst dental in Kent, braces are a treatment we love to carry out for patients. Apart from the satisfaction of having straighter teeth after as little as a few months in some cases, braces are non-invasive, so nothing too scary can happen for patients either, which dentists also enjoy!

The biggest benefit for patients who choose braces in kent, is the increase in confidence that they will feel having straighter teeth which can also have an improved bite due to the braces having realigned the teeth.

cosmetic-braces-kentcan anyone have braces?

Almost anyone can have braces if they have wonky teeth or a misaligned bite. Different braces have different requirements. For example, lingual braces are usually only used on front teeth and so may be no good to a patient wanting to straighten out teeth towards the back of the mouth.

Our braces in Kent come in different forms.

Invisalign

Invisalign are the most widely recognised clear braces solution, with millions of cases resolved worldwide. But what are they? Invisalign braces are clear aligners that look a bit like gum shields – but fit a lot more comfortably within the mouth due to being custom made for your unique dental case.

Invisalign aligners are made from a comfortable clear plastic and uses force to gently push the teeth into a straighter position within the mouth.

Six Month Smiles

Six Month Smiles are braces in Kent that can potentially achieve much faster results than traditional braces. The trick is that they are as strong as traditional braces, use an advanced system and also they use tooth coloured brackets and a tooth-coloured wire, giving you the power of metal braces, but the benefit of more discreet braces.

Veneers

Typically veneers are not classed as braces, however in some minor cases where there is only a slight misalignment – or misalignment on one tooth only, veneers can provide a clever solution to create straight teeth by adding a porcelain veneer to the front of the offending tooth.

To find out more about how you too can get braces in Kent, call our practice today and book in to see us.
