If your teeth, crowns or fillings are chipping, breaking or cracking there may be a deeper reason than just bad luck.
Often the bite (we call this occlusion) may be misaligned or working in an unfavourable position that causes the damage.
You may not even be aware that you are wearing down your teeth or about to break teeth especially if it is happening to the back teeth. At Staplehurst Dental Practice we look at the way your teeth bite together and how your jaw works in much more detail.
Many people suffer from headache, neck ache or shoulder ache and may have heard clicking sounds in the ear or from the jaw joint area. These can very well be signs that you are wearing your teeth, jaw joint or overloading your muscles and tendons that support the jaw. Even problems like dizziness, Tinnitus (ringing in the ears) and hearing loss can be caused by the “bite”.
Left unchecked this can cause major damage to the whole mouth, just like a car that is misaligned. The earlier these changes are detected, the better. Even crowns, bridges, dental implants and fillings cannot withstand the forces the mouth can create and expensive dentistry can be destroyed very quickly.
At Staplehurst Dental Practice we look at the early signs like hairline fractures and we can work with you to stop the teeth from wearing and prevent further damage. If you recognise some of the signs and symptoms above, call us right away for a comprehensive examination and to find out the best way to help you.
